💬 From the record:
Dennis Fung was an LAPD criminalist who spent eight days on the stand — one of the longest stretches of any witness — testifying about his collection and handling of blood evidence from the Bundy and Rockingham crime scenes. Under direct examination by Hank Goldberg, Fung walked through evidence collection protocols and acknowledged gaps, including stains he wished he had collected on June 13th. Defense attorney Barry Scheck's cross-examination became a centerpiece of the trial, methodically using crime scene videotapes to expose contradictions in Fung's testimony, failures in chain-of-custody documentation, and procedural violations such as storing wet blood swatches in plastic bags for hours. By the time Fung was excused, his testimony had also undermined his junior partner Andrea Mazzola's credibility, as contradictions emerged between their accounts of who actually collected key blood samples at Rockingham.
