Sgt. David Rossi, an LAPD sergeant, testified as a witness in both the criminal and civil trials. His criminal-trial testimony addressed notifications and the initial crime-scene response, including his account that he notified Detective Ron Phillips at about 1:00 a.m. and reported only a possible identification of a victim. F. Lee Bailey's cross-examination questioned scene preservation, officer movements, evidence handling, coroner notification, and Rossi's responsibilities, and exposed a false entry in the crime-scene log.
