Stephen Oppler, a District Attorney's Office investigator, testified as a prosecution witness on September 13, 1995. Marcia Clark conducted his direct and redirect examinations, while Peter Neufeld conducted cross-examination and recross-examination. During cross-examination, Oppler said he declined to speak privately with Neufeld during a recess because he preferred Clark to be present; after a later off-the-record exchange with both attorneys, he said he was uncomfortable and would answer questions under oath. The questioning also addressed whether Mr. Peratis had said anything about the case after taping concluded.
