Michael D. Sullivan served as a Deputy City Attorney who, alongside co-counsel Halina Esinski, represented journalist Joseph Bosco in a shield law dispute during the summer of 1995. Retained on short notice, Sullivan and Esinski fought to protect Bosco from a defense subpoena — raising First Amendment press shield issues over an article Bosco had written — and negotiated the scope of his testimony before he ultimately took the stand. Sullivan's involvement spanned hearings on the admissibility of Bosco's testimony, discovery matters, and related motions over several days in late July and August 1995.
