Judge John H. Reid presided over the August 8, 1995 motion hearing on the defense request for statements and other material from an LAPD Internal Affairs investigation into leaks of testing information to the press. Reid said he had read the defense's August 1 motion but otherwise was largely unfamiliar with the matter, and he questioned Gerald Uelmen about whether the request was limited to prior statements by prospective trial witnesses and what specific exculpatory material the defense expected. Uelmen identified Michele Kestler and David Gascon as witnesses whose testimony would relate to the investigation and said Collin Yamauchi may have been interviewed; he ultimately clarified that the defense sought to have the entire report sent to Judge Ito for in camera inspection.
