Carol Connors, a songwriter who had known O.J. Simpson as an acquaintance since around 1980, testified for the defense on the first day it presented its case. Called by Robert Shapiro, she placed Simpson at a charity dinner on June 11, 1994 — just two days before the murders — at a private Bell Air estate honoring dignitaries including Madame Jihan Sadat and Leah Rabin. Her testimony was part of the defense's opening strategy to establish Simpson's demeanor and movements in the days leading up to June 12th, and she was examined and excused the same day after cross-examination by Christopher Darden.
