Scull Bruno Magli Photographs

A set of technical photographic exhibits prepared by plaintiff's expert Gerald Richards to rebut Groden's authenticity challenges, including microscopic film enlargements showing camera rail scratches, frame alignment comparisons with scratch lines drawn through the emulsion, an underexposed contact sheet prepared for edge visibility, a computer-generated graphic illustrating the Frame 0/Frame 1 relationship, a roll of negatives Richards shot in a hotel room to demonstrate the Frame 0 phenomenon, a drawing of railroad tracks illustrating vanishing point geometry, diagrams showing photocopy distortion via overlaid graph squares, enlargements demonstrating shoe-sole reflection and halo effects, a photograph of the back of a Canon F1 camera showing film rails and sprocket drive, and other supporting visuals. The exhibit bundle spans Exhibits 2357 through 2373 and includes comparison photographs of other players' shoes on the field.

Thirty photographs taken by photographer E.J. Flammer at Rich Stadium on September 26, 1993, at a Buffalo Bills event commemorating the 20th anniversary of O.J. Simpson's 2,000-yard rushing record, showing Simpson in group and individual shots with club members. The photographs, discovered in Flammer's basement and newly surfaced during the civil trial, show Simpson wearing Bruno Magli-style shoes and include the same jacket, tie, and pants as the Scull photograph. Defense expert Groden contended the photographs did not alter his authenticity opinion about the Scull photograph.

The C-41 original negative, contact sheets, and associated film strips from Harry Scull's September 26, 1993 shoot at Rich Stadium, including Frame 1 (the Simpson image) and surrounding frames showing other subjects at the game. The materials were transmitted to McElroy for delivery to Pro Football Weekly approximately one week after the game, and later sent to Gamma-Liaison in London for scanning. Defense expert Groden examined the original negative in Buffalo and challenged the alignment and edge characteristics of Frame 1-1 on the contact sheet.

Photograph taken by AP photographer Harry Scull on September 26, 1993, at Rich Stadium (Orchard Park, NY) showing O.J. Simpson standing full-length in the end zone wearing Bruno Magli Lorenzo shoes, shot with a 500mm f/4.5 Canon lens from the end zone. The image was subsequently published in the National Enquirer on April 23, 1996, and was the central disputed exhibit in the civil trial, with the defense challenging its authenticity as a digitally altered fabrication.

A family of marked and enlarged prints of the Scull contact sheet photographs used during the civil trial: a marked version of the Simpson frame (Exhibit 2071), a horizontal photograph of Simpson (Exhibit 2072), another Scull frame taken that day (Exhibit 2076), and the corresponding blow-ups of those frames (Exhibits 2287, 2288, 2289). Plaintiff's expert Richards identified camera-rail scratch lines (blue lines) running through these frames, using them to rebut Groden's claim that the lines were forgery artifacts. Exhibit 2357 is an enlarged version of the Scull photograph (Exhibit 1830) introduced at the start of Richards' testimony.

Series of 12 annotated slides prepared by defense expert Robert Groden illustrating alleged technical anomalies in the Scull photograph negative, including the purported false edge below Frame 1, double-edge misalignment, and contact sheet registration arguments. Specific slides were referenced by number during testimony, including Slide 3 showing the alleged second edge below Frame 1.

Comparison board prepared by FBI footwear examiner William Bodziak containing enlargements and enhanced contact prints derived from Harry Scull's photograph of O.J. Simpson, including Bodziak's laboratory recreation of a similar shoe photograph for class-characteristic comparison to the Bruno Magli Lorenzo outsole pattern. A separate board (Exhibit 2061) was referenced in a prior testimony session. Bodziak concluded that the Flammer photographs showed the same class characteristics as the Scull photograph shoes.

Original photographic negatives and contact sheets from E.J. Flammer's two rolls of film shot at Rich Stadium on September 26, 1993, comprising group shots and individual shots of Simpson with club members on Roll 1, and three individual shots plus Bills warmup photos on Roll 2. The original negatives were held by the court and available for defense examination, though the defense was never allowed access to verify authenticity prior to trial. The materials include proof sheets and 11x14 and 20x24 enlargements.

Photographic blow-up of O.J. Simpson's left leg and pants area used by defense expert Robert Groden to argue that retouching or cloning was present in the Scull photograph, along with a copy of plaintiffs' exhibit marked by Groden to indicate the retouching location and a zoomed version focusing on heel position. Gelblum challenged the retouching theory during cross-examination.

Photographs taken at the same September 26, 1993 Bills game showing O.J. Simpson in the same outfit as the disputed Scull photograph, including a photograph of Simpson interviewing Miami Dolphins player Keith Byers, a photograph of Simpson standing alone before the game, and a photograph of Simpson holding a microphone used for color balance comparison.

Flammer's Negative 7A, the specific frame from Roll 1 used to produce both a black-and-white print published in the November 1993 issue of the Buffalo Bills Report weekly and a color print produced for the civil trial. The Bills Report publication pre-dated the murders by approximately eight months, establishing the photograph's existence before June 12, 1994.

Invoice No. 2012 submitted by E.J. Flammer to the Buffalo Bills, dated October 17, 1993, billing $41.70 for six O.J. Simpson 5x7 color prints, and the corresponding check stub from the Buffalo Bills paying the invoice, dated November 23, 1993.

Signed court declaration of E.J. Flammer, which was used by the defense on cross-examination to impeach Flammer's testimony about the date he discovered the photographs, as the declaration referenced the 'weekend of the 28, 29' rather than December 27 as Flammer testified.
