Wayne Stanfield, an American Airlines pilot and captain, testified as a defense witness in the criminal trial. Examined directly by F. Lee Bailey, he said that on June 12, 1994, he piloted Flight 668 from Los Angeles to Chicago and then to Albany; the flight departed Los Angeles at 11:45 p.m. and used a Super 80, or MD-80, aircraft that he described as a stretch DC-9. Christopher Darden conducted the cross-examination, and Stanfield later appeared as a witness in civil-trial proceedings.
