Jackie Cooper, a tennis professional who was director of tennis at the LaQuinta Hotel in the Palm Springs area in June 1994, testified as a witness in the civil trial. Cooper said he had known O.J. Simpson and Allen Cowlings for approximately 15 years and described becoming acquainted with Simpson through Cowlings, tennis, golf, and social activities. He testified that he considered Simpson a friend and was with him during Memorial Day weekend, including for a 6:00 a.m. Saturday tee time; Cooper was directly examined by Robert Baker and cross-examined by Daniel Petrocelli on December 3, 1996.
