Date: Monday, May 15, 1995 • Utterances: 6
Judge Ito adjourns the court for the evening at 4:40 PM, instructing the jury on standard admonitions before releasing them until 9:00 AM the following morning. Dr. Robin Cotton is excused from the stand and counsel is called to chambers to discuss plans for the next day. 1 THE COURT:

All right. Ladies and gentlemen, we are going to take our recess for the evening at this time. Please remember all of my admonitions to you; do not discuss the case amongst yourselves, do not form any opinions about the case, do not allow anybody to communicate with you, don't conduct any deliberations until the matter has been submitted to you. As far as the jury is concerned, we'll stand in recess until tomorrow morning at 9:00 o'clock. And, Dr. Cotton, you may step down. As soon as we clear the jury, we'll have a few discussions about plans for tomorrow. All right. Actually I'll see counsel in chambers about that.

Key Quotes (2)

Lance A. Ito
Do not discuss the case amongst yourselves, do not form any opinions about the case, do not allow anybody to communicate with you, don't conduct any deliberations until the matter has been submitted to you.
Standard nightly jury admonition, notable given the high-profile and heavily media-covered nature of the civil trial.
Lance A. Ito
I'll see counsel in chambers about that.
Signals an off-record discussion about scheduling, likely related to Dr. Cotton's continued testimony.
